Let me clarify my statement. Free space before the first partition is not
harmful. It doesn't matter if it's MBR, GPT, UEFI or legacy.

A few years ago I started adding the grub-efi-ia32 package to the live
isos for someone who had an old Macbook Pro that was 64-bit OS with a
32-bit bootloader. I'm curious to know if the Devuan amd64 live isos boot
on your tablet. (I'm assuming you can boot from usb on that thing.)
Thanks in advance if you have a chance to try that.
Note: If you get ambitious and want to try installing devuan on the
tablet, you would need to install the 32-bit grub package in the live
environment before installing the system. This has been minimally tested
and it's been a few years since I've heard of anyone doing it.
