What the wintel crowd that is slowly repeatedly rearing its ugly head
while it takes over the Linux ecosystem needs it to be able to
control what (OS) boots what (HW).
Sooner than later, the time will come when us mortals will not be
able to boot any available hardware without some proprietary key.
That key is slowly but steadily being develped around all this UEFI
shit.
Main reason I will not give up / upgrade or [whatever] my BIOS only
Sun Ultra 24. Cold dead hands and all that.
There will probaby be *other* more complex roadblocks but by the time
the DHs get around to that I will probably be busy dealing with
whoever guards the gates to Hell to see if I can get decent
accomodation.
ie: far from the fire pit where Poetering et al will be residing.
