Speaking just for myself, I would *never* have my workflow depend on
Gnome, because it's so tied to systemd, it takes so much effort to
break those ties, and it would be so easy for the systemd cabal to
torpedo the hacks that break those ties. I view Gnome as a hazardous
attraction.
