Huh? Just Plasma with no apps open? Also CPU usage with 100% being all
cores used or 5 to 10% of one CPU core?
Uses about 1-2% of 1600% of CPU capacity here on AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U.
That is about way less than 1% if the machine had only one core. And that
is with Konsole open to have atop display the CPU usage :). And also two
weather applets around. And Python based HP-Systray for printer and
Nextcloud desktop client. And also most cores down-clocked to low
frequency. I find that to be quite acceptable.
Some KDE applications even got the German Blauer Engel (blue angel)
environmental certificate. Like the PDF viewer Okular for example. This
certificate is said to be quite strict. And they do have a mailing list
and team effort about energy efficiency.
Granted above CPU is quite a power house despite being a low power usage
mobile SOC, but still, 5 to 10% CPU usage for KDE alone sounds like quite
much. Not sure whether the base platform Linux <=> OpenBSD also makes a
difference here.
But anyway, we will see. Devuan uses XFCE as default desktop. Fine enough,
if you ask me. And XFCE should not be affected by the GNOME changes, or
would it?
What remains to be seen is whether it is feasible to have GNOME in Devuan
in a long term. Depends on whether some people develop replacements for
what they rely on Systemd in the future, I'd say.
