That does tell me some about how old your last impression about KDE is.
Quite old.

Nepomuk is long gone. Really long gone.

Akonadi is still there. I use it with SQLite3 as DB backend meanwhile and
it is much more stable, speedy and reliable with that. However… it is
still far from perfect. It is one of the last items that I think either
need replacing or fixing it up (if possible).

However Baloo desktop search is running really well for me meanwhile. With
full text indexing. I do not like to miss it. A long time I had it only
index based on file names, cause of reliability issues. But these are gone
on my system. So now it is a full text index and that is awesome for
finding things. There is one directory I excluded from indexing due to
some issues, but other than that it is running nicely.

It is almost like a database front end to the contents of indexed
filesystems.
