And now it's getting worse because every man and his dog is
re-inventing the app-building-wheel. In addition to spending time
compiling applications, I'm spending time compiling umpteen tools to
compile applications. Building gcc is one thing. But now I'm spending
time to compile the latest version of llvm, and clang, and meson, and
python, yada, yada, yada before I can begin to use them to compile
applications.

In most distros, you get the finished application, so you don't need
to build the tools that build the applications.
