No problem. Thank you for taking the time for this.

So grep shows this:
# grep elogind /etc/pam.d/*
/etc/pam.d/common-session:session optional pam_elogind.so
/etc/pam.d/elogind-user:session optional pam_elogind.so


And contents of elogind-user are:
# This file is part of systemd.
#
# Used by systemd --user instances.

account required pam_unix.so
session required pam_selinux.so close
session required pam_selinux.so nottys open
session required pam_loginuid.so
session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke
session optional pam_elogind.so

I've commented out all of these lines. Presumably elogind-user is
absolutely pointless on a Devuan system anyway?
