remove the printer from system print-settings,
remove cups and everything cups related:

check that your user was added to the lp group.
setup the printer in system print-settings (as root?) ,
choose the driver, Laserjet 1012
and select the recommended one
HP Laserjet 1012, hpcups 3.22.10
(eventually test the other two drivers provided)
If the printer is connected to a USB port cleaning the contacts
of the plug and socket also can do wonders as they can oxidize
with time.
