I would create a menu on xfce which would create Launcher.1232421 folders or
desktop files but some xfce registry would require the names to match up or
something. I forget the details but copying them to another machine was a pain.
With KDEs folder view it is literally just a root folder location and optionally
an icon that you set and you just copy or sync that folder of folders, files and
scripts between machines to provide a menu on your panel. .desktop files seem to
be intended for program installation and not for users to use.
