Excellent questions.

I have been wondering on and off about the consequences the advent of
this *new* (to me) hardware/tech for the longest while.

In general (not just netbooks/laptops) but have not bothered as all
my stuff is BIOS boot and have no intention upgrading.

If it can be called that.

But these days the future of IT is more uncertain than ever, to say
the least.

Who could have guessed that systemd would get so ingrained into the
Linux ecosystem?

Who knows what will happen?
eg: BIOS boot boxes/laptops eventually rendered useless.
