I hate to revive an old thread, but I just want to say, I don't think good
people are inherently lazy. I think most people are typically busy and
don't have the ability to lend their entire lives to being megaphones on
social media or mailing lists, regardless of their nature. I also don't
think Devuan is doomed because the mailing list gets quiet. We are all
busy. I've been part of this project since the very early days, and I
believe that was pre-alpha. Jaromil can confirm this. I've been too busy to
be active here, but I still give back. I run a package mirror, and at one
point it was the only one in the US. It may still be. My server costs me
about $70 a month. That cost increases significantly when I have a
high-bandwidth month. I can't give much time, but I give financially and
what time it takes to keep up my package mirror. I also have two toddlers,
one moderately to severely autistic, at home and a disabled father I help
care for. Additionally, I work as a systems engineer at a Fortune 5. Does
that mean I'm lazy because I only read the DNG email once a month? No it
does not. Does it mean I don't care because I can't take an active role in
maintenance and development? No it does not. Does it mean the project is
dead? No it does not. It just means we are all busy and we have to give
back in what ways we can. Don't disparage the project or its members simply
because of your preconceived notions. I appreciate every single person on
this mailing list, whether you're active in the project or not. Just being
part of the mailing list helps keep the project alive. For those who are
active, I'm supremely appreciative. And for those that go above and beyond,
such as golinux and a handful of others, there is nothing I, or the
community, can do to repay them for the extreme efforts they put forth.
Just know that I am in their debt, as are each one of you. So please, don't
bring your negativism here. Bring good vibes. Bring good effort. And
lastly, bring good faith.
