Oops, I forgot:

Southwark = Suthark
Mousehole = Mousal
Southwell = Suthell
Leicester = Lester
Cockburn = Coburn
Magdelen (college) = Mawdlin
etc...

I also caused some confusion when asking for directions to "Schenectady" in
New York State, USA, some years ago.
