Ubuntu does what you wrote:

[alessandro@wkstn03 ~]$ ll /etc/resolv.conf

[alessandro@wkstn03 ~]$ head -2 /etc/resolv.conf

[alessandro@wkstn03 ~]$ lsb_release -drc
