When collecting data from a Linux host for a problem report, I recommend
using /usr/bin/script, a utility that opens a subshell that logs all
console output to a file (default filename ./typescript) until you close
the subshell. Put that file on a flash drive, and you have a verbatim
shell session with no possibility of transcription errors, from which
you can quote relevant portions in your help request.

Transcription errors can lead to frustrating results for both
help-seekers and those who aspire to assist them.

(If I haven't added that 'script' tip to my and Eric Raymond's
'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' essay, I will soon. Need to
check.)
