Yesterday replaced the SCSI card marked
02935406-00 Singapore, BUZ MS, BS007357 02/02/98
with a card markded
adaptec AHA-2940/2040U, ASSY 916506-01
.
Then the machine boots routinely. Yes, the 02935406-00 has something
special. This is the only instance I recall an expansion card
blocking all evidence of life beyond an LED on the power supply or
system board.

I don't recall the origin of the troublesome card. So much equipment
is discarded at the university that I've purchased few accessories and
never purchased an IBM PC compatible machine.
Thanks for all feedbacks, ... P.
