a supplement to this problem, that may or may not be related to the
VNC console, but the "device/vfb/0" makes me think, it does:

When starting a(ny) PV VM, I get the message (in yellow) on the
Text(!) Console:
xenbus probe frontend: Timeout connecting to device: device/vfb/0 (local
state 3, remote state 1)
after the message
xenbus_probe_frontend: Waiting for devices to initialise:
25s...20s...15s...10s...5s...0s...

Hopefully this helps a bit.
