My research tells me that anything you do with ~/.asoundrc turns out
counterproductive, and life is better if it doesn't exist.
I have no ~/.asoundrc . I use my USB audio ever since the jacks on the
built-in sound card went bad. Every time I boot, the USB sound card is
a different card number, but everything is taken in stride. Here is my
/etc/asound.conf , straight from the Void factory (I think):
==========================================================
# Use pulseaudio by default
pcm.!default {
type pulse
fallback "sysdefault"
hint {
show on
description "Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)"
}
}
ctl.!default {
type pulse
fallback "sysdefault"
}
# vim:set ft=alsaconf:
