Subject: [DNG] Instaling Devuan Daedalus on a Mac Mini, Model Number: A1283, 2008, Intel polycarbonate.
Hi,

Markings on the bottom of the machine
Serial No: YM0120BU9G5
MAC MINI: 2.26/2X1G/160/SD/AP/BT - USA EMC No:2336
Contains: FCC ID: QDS-BRCM1027 and IC: 4324A-BRCM1027

The rear panel is exactly as illustrated here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Mini#/media/File:Apple_Mac_Mini_(March_2009)_02.jpg

With a monitor connected via a Mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter, sound
from the disk drive suggests the system is running. The screen
remains black.

With the same monitor connected via a Mini DVI to DVI adapter, the old
MAC system on the HDD and the recovery system from the MacOS PROM each
produce a display. =8~)

Any ideas about the DVI working while DisplayPort fails? In any case,
DVI is better than no display. =8~)

Installation instructions for Daedalus are here.
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=6121

Powering up while holding the <alt option> key allows choosing boot
from the internal HDD or the USB connected Daedalus installer, EFI.

The instructions mention "1. ... turn off Secure Boot ..."
Where is Secure Boot?

My usual installation routine:
Remove the internal drive,
connect to a working system via a USB adapter,
paritition with gparted,
replace the drive in the Mac,
boot from a USB-connected installer,
install,
remove the installer,
reboot to the fresh system.

OK for the Mac mini?

The instructions mention refractainstaller and I know nothing about it.
Can the Daedalus installer be used without refracta?

Thanks, ... P.
