You can take the last xorg release as a template, most of it should work
(haven't tried yet). The trickiest part is also rebuilding all drivers
(as usual for major releases) and set package dependencies accordingly
(so the correct ones are pulled in automatically).

By the way, Xlibre adds extra per-major-release module subdirs, so
anything built for it will go in there - while the old subdirs are
used looked up with lower priority. So in future it will be posssible
to have several versions of Xserver and drivers installed at the
same time (never understood why that hadn't aleady been done decades
ago).

For the future, we'd like to let CI automatically (unofficial) build
packages for several target distros ... but we're not there yet.
