Some Iomega Jaz Host adapters are based on the Adaptec 7800 family of
adapters and some of those adapters had a BIOS to boot SCSI drives
from.

It would seem that this is one of those Adaptec cards.

At one time, Adaptec cards were *the* SCSI standard so that will not
be an issue unless there is something wrong with it, they have been
supported by Linux since 2.x.

With one of those cards in your box, you could either boot from a
SCSI drive or from whatever on-board controller was present without
enabling the adapter's BIOS.

Now, with the adapter's BIOS enabled, the card will scan the system
for a bootable SCSI drive and if it finds it, boot from that drive.

But if it does not find one, it will behave the same way any other
box would if it cannot find a bootable drive: a black screen with a
blinking cursor at the top left edge of the screen.

This would seem to be the actual situation, more so if your box boots
correctly with the card removed.

So, the first thing would be to check the card's configuration and
see if the BIOS is enabled.

If I recall correctly, you have to hit [Ctrl-A] the moment you see
the system printout read "Iomega Jaz Jet PCI BIOS v2.8M".

cable, etc.

One last thing:
These cards *may* have a limitation with respect to the capacity of
the drive attached to them as they were used for Jaz drives.

Check your inbox for a couple of *.pdfs to help you with this.
Do let us know how you fared.

Best,
