"Did not work" covers a multitude of sins. From your computer,
plugged into your firewall, what's the result of:
ping 8.8.8.8
What's the result of browsing to a known-good IP address (not URL, IP
address)?

Don't ever do this again unless your firewall is in the router itself.
Plugging into the Internet without a firewall is like going to the
whorehouse without a condom. Use a computer with a throwaway OS for
this, and reformat and reinstall after your troubleshooting is
complete. If you choose to use your daily driver desktop, give it a
very strict firewall, like:
pass icmp
drop all outgoing on all ports
drop all incoming except on port 80
The rest of your message makes it look like a DHCP problem, but doing
the tests I suggest will prove or disprove that suspicion.
