LOL, my /etc/resolv.conf has been immutable for years.

[slitt@mydesk gun357]$ lsattr /etc/resolv.conf
----i---------e------- /etc/resolv.conf
[slitt@mydesk gun357]$

I don't really laptop around much, but if I remember correctly, back
when I did, I just had unbound running on the machine, and
/etc/resolv.conf pointed to that server. I don't remember having too
much trouble.
