Set up a PV panel and record what energy it does collect. It is
possible to become sunburnt snow skiing on an overcast day. Also,
seasonal orientation can be a factor, if you can manage it.

When you start to do the figures, a backup generator is a very
economical proposition compared to very large battery bank. In Aus, we
don't generally have the option, but your EV as part of your battery
bank is appealing.
