Hi,

If dbus is not installed there will be continuous spam in the xorg log files, eg ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

[ 3970.566] (EE) dbus-core: error connecting to system bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound (Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory)
[ 3980.566] (EE) dbus-core: error connecting to system bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound (Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory)

Present on beowulf for me but might affect ascii too.

This setup has the dbus package removed, and I tried working around this with the configuration stanza "no-use-session-dbus" in /etc/X11/Xsession.options without any change.

This looks to be a known Debian issue with an open bug report [1] that was apparently fixed but then reintroduced, and open since 2017 with no sensible workaround. It was reported to freedesktop.org [2] but got a simple "no fix" reply because this is apparently a niche case. But I think that's unlikely and that many Devuan users would have a similar setup so I'm filing it here.

Devuan now has src:xorg-server packages built with libseat instead of
libsystemd and dbus. That should resolve this issue.
