Just to let you know that the latest sysvinit (2.92) was built
yesterday in debian/unstable, and I built it today for ceres and
beowulf.

So it seems that sysvinit is staying in Debian for the foreseeable
future, thanks to the collaboration of several people, involving
upstream (Jesse Smith), DDs (mainly Ian Jackson. Benda Xu, Dmitry
Bogatov) and some help from Devuan.
