On unmodified Debian, you need os-prober 1.72 or newer (in stretch).

Devuan jessie has 1.65+deb8u1 which indeed does not recognize Devuan.
Yeah, os-prober as shipped by Devuan doesn't recognize Devuan. Yay?
I guess the point release update (1.65+deb8u1) has been blindly imported
without re-applying the patches.
