I get worried when I hear that some software will "replace" other
software, rather than "here's some better software." Sounds a little
too Poetteresque to me, and why do I get the feeling Redhat's and
FreeDesktop's tenticles will be all over it?

Remember the days when you used to cheer improvements, because
improvements were made to make life better rather than monopolize?
