You lose the ability to boot simple systems without an initramfs.
Systemd requires an initramfs, and if somebody had real a real /sbin
directory, inclusion of ext4 drivers means a very simple boot to an
ext4 (no LFS, no encryption) root drive containing /etc/fstab, after
which the real init on the real filesystem could mount all the exotic
directories anyone could dream of. Geez, how would Red Hat make money if
Linux were simple?
