I installed devuan from one of the old alphas. I remember there was
something I had to do with the ISO before I could boot it from a USB
stick. I gather it needed some kind of prefix?

The correspondence should be somewhere in the ancient history of this
mailing list.

But maye the modern ISO's no longer have this problem.
