and redirect it to /etc/issue.net:

apt-get -s upgrade | grep "^[0-9]* upgr" | cut -d " " -f 1 > /etc/issue.net

Set Banner in /etc/ssh/sshd_config file:

Banner /etc/issue.net

then You don't need to log in to system via ssh to check if there are
updates - information will appear when you type:

ssh -p <port> <user>@<server>;
