Apologies for the late reply--things have been busy at work lately.

I'd be happy to add an OpenRC init script :) I opened an issue for it
here: https://github.com/jcnelson/vdev/issues/27

Also, a BSD-style init script would be nice at some point (
https://github.com/jcnelson/vdev/issues/28).
