Subject: [Dng] systemd, sysvinit and util-linux
Hello list,

just FYI:

Debian/testing has just updated the sysvinit packages (initscripts,
sysv-rc, sysvinit-core, sysvinit-utils) from 2.88dsf-59 to
2.88dsf-59.1. This introduces a dependency on mount (>= 2.26.2-3).

Whereas the the sysvinit packages in Devuan/testing are still being
merged from Debian, Devuan ships its own util-linux 2.25.2-4.1+devuan1,
thus breaking the dependency. (Issue reported on GitLab.)

The technical background (as I understand it) is to move certain
utilities, particularly mountpoint, from sysvinit-utils to util-linux,
which superficially seems legit to me.

The political background, however, seems to be to remove the last
remaining dependencies on sysvinit-scripts from systemd, presumably
just one more step towards eventually dropping sysvinit support from
Debian altogether. Well, not very surprising, but still sad.

Again, thanks to all the folks working on and supporting Devuan,
striving to still provide us with a working systemd-less yet still
Debian-like distribution in the future!

Cheers,
Urban
