Until the mozilla fixes their UI to accommodate these stupid icon fonts in conjunction with the font preference option, there is now a temporary fix - at least for Firefox. All I'm doing is sharing it. :)

I don't think there is something broken and need fixing on any web sites
using the fonts from http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome. You can
not say that they are not working because they are not using the fonts
that you want to see. So by forcing the web sites to display the fonts
that you want to see, you actually break them yourself. I am not
surprised that the issues like the ones reported on
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=635823 and
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=789788 have not been solved
for more than 3 years, because that only affects a tiny fraction of the
users that want to have the web sites being displayed with the fonts
that they choose.

Even the visually impaired people do not have any issues with that kind
of fonts. They mostly have issues seeing the size of the fonts and they
way they are being displayed with certain colour schemes. Even there are
plugins for that, but those kind of issues can easily be overcome
without plugins.

There are indeed people who are experiencing the problems using
fontawesome. But all of the problems that I know of, are on setup of the
web server or web sites so they are not on the web browser side. I have
been following discussions related to fontawesome as I want to use the
theme on my own web site based on
http://getskel.com/downloads/skel-baseline/ which is using it.
