[T.J. ] To be honest, I do not quite get what the debate is over at Debian.
That's something of a big *shrug* as far as I am concerned. Falling back on
Google's nameserver is no better or worse than using anyone else's. If some
over at Debian are under the delusion that their privacy is somehow invaded
by using a Google nameserver, they should keep in mind that your ISP logs
exactly the same data, as does everyone else. I should know. I used to
setup DNS and administrate servers for a living.
As far as making Debian "idiot-proof" by choosing a default - for most is
probably not a bad thing. There are a lot of people using Linux today who
do not know how to set their DNS properly, even in Windows. The rest of us
probably have our own nameservers.

[T.J. ] Debian never really did reach a high point, KatolaZ. It always did
have some breakage and some "brain-dead" goofs with each release. When I
heard they were going to systemd, I pretty much assumed that the
architecture of the system would be trashed in favor of the systemd model.
That is why I have made comments, sometimes regarded as contentious - that
Devuan will eventually have to make a clean break with Debian, just to stay
sane.
