Subject: [Dng] OT--Need to access a host behind CGNAT
As I've learned there is a good brain trust on this list, I have a
somewhat interesting problem to solve.

A few weeks ago due to circumstances beyond my control, I now have
Internet access where I am behind Carrier Grade NAT. In other words, my
router no longer has a publicly accessible IP address. This means I can
no longer use port forwarding on my router to SSH into my main desktop
where I collect and read my email.

As I have researched this, it appears my options are to have access to a
shell account that I can set up a remote SSH tunnel to or a VPN. The
trick is finding a shell provider I trust enough to host a private SSH
key as I would presumably initiate the tunnel from the home desktop and
then login to the shell account from the laptop and connect to the
tunnel from there. If I misunderstand, please correct me.

I have a vague idea about VPNs as I have never set one up. Likewise, I
presume that I would need a third party host as above and that entails
all of the trust issues.

I asked the owner of the Web host I am renting but he wasn't too keen on
allowing me to use his server for an SSH tunnel so that option, which I
thought may be the most trust worthy, seems out of the question.

TIA,

- Nate
