If i wish to install xfce4 on my mostly stable Gentoo, there is one
package in the dependencies where systemd is mentioned.

hafi@i5_64 ~ $ emerge -p -uDN xfce4-meta
[...]
xfce-base/xfce4-session-4.10.1-r2 USE="nls xscreensaver -debug -systemd -upower"

But systemd is not required, as you can see by the '-'. :)
