No name - just version number

Why does a release of non-commercial software have to have a name?
Especially as there seems to be such a wide variety of opinion!

What is wrong with just using a version number? The content of
/etc/devuan_version
eg:
devuan v1.0
devuan v1.1
.
.
.
devuan v2.0
etc

Perhaps I'm just showing my age and (mainframe) background!
