Greetings from California! We are working on something similar in Santa Cruz. We are using bitcoin micropayment channels to make mesh nodes data merchants.

We worked out a skeleton of a bartering protocol and are working on doing an implementation in now, first in python to debug, then in C/++ to make it easy to port to many platforms. Here's the protocol

We wanted to leave room for clients to develop their own bartering strategies, so we didn't get too specific on how to converge on an agreement, and since there's no obvious right answer for the parameters of the micropayment channel, we let that be part of the negotiation.

If you want to check out the git repo (very minimal atm) go here:

If anyone asks, we are doing it to strengthen national security, to make America's networks more secure against terrorists like Comcast :D

Seriously, tho, we would definitely appreciate any constructive criticism of the protocol as it stands. It needs to be made more detailed, but the basic ideas are expressed, I think.

Also, if anyone wants to jump on the project, I'd be super stoked. We all have day jobs and are working on this in spare time.

Basically hobbying around at this point, but with the ideal of subverting our ISP's. Canada's ISP's are a notoriously overpriced oligarchy.
