Surety bonds are just another way to manage trust in exchanges without
relying on reputation systems alone.

Daniel Krawisz also came up with an idea of using purchased identities with
Bitcoins that can be used in combination with surety bonds to automatically
reimburse any party that is defrauded. The more costly your identity, as a
proportion of the individual exchange, the more trust you have... a way to
avoid the pitfalls of reputation systems alone (complementary solutions are
the best).
