Bitcoin (and Catcoin), and pretty much any Satoshi-style proof-of-work
are consensus systems that depend on having widely distributed 'hash
rates' so that it is unlikley that any one entity can obtain more
than 51% of the hash rate, or at least that it is too expensive for
both rational and irrational attackers to continue a sustained attack.

It's still got quite a bit of a problem for democracy because it's
still sort of 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.

There's still a heirarchy, as a developer I can release code that
freezes funds, or changes the money supply, or all other manner of
things that are coercive power when excercised by a single central
point of control.

But there has to be a consensus and healthy culture of the other
developers and then the community of miners and end-users that actually
run the code.

Bitcoin's culture is, well, quasi-religious about the total money
supply, (and as a priviledged white guy, I feel I can say this), is
mostly rich (or at least in the top 10%) white guys who develop software,
and waaaay too many of them seem to worship Ayn Rand and/or Austrian
economics. And there's an egotistical asshole problem, which is waaay
to easy for me to get sucked into and become the very thing that's
pissing me off.

What I like about Catcoin is it's pretty much mostly Bitcoin, but the
culture (so far) is of volunteer consensus of people who like Cats
more than they want to get rich, which I suppose is just a different
religion about what makes sound money.

Now.. for CryptoConsensus (or CryptoDemocracy) have a look at
http://heavycoin.github.io/voting.html which is damned quite fascinating,
and I need to figure out how to free myself from the demands of chasing
money to pay expenses so I can instead spend time embracing and extending
Heavycoin's voting into Codecoin.

Now what if every transaction (and maybe vote?) was geo-tagged.. could
we cryptographically validate this, and do something interesting?

There's also more things floating in my head like how to do what Datacoin
does to actually store the version control history for a cryptocoin IN the
cryptocoin's own blockchain, and then make it trivial for end-users to
voluntarily tip the developers who maintain the code.

Troy Benjegerdes 'da hozer' hozer@???
7 elements      earth::water::air::fire::mind::spirit::soul        grid.coop

Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel,
nor try buy a hacker who makes money by the megahash
