has the solution :) modprobe some kernel modules
on 2.6.18-ck1-dyne
lsmod
modprobe ppdev
modprobe parport
modprobe lp
dmesg | grep ppdev
dmesg | grep parport
dmesg | grep lp
cupsd
www 127.0.0.1:631
LTP #1, and Parallel Port #1 Canon/Epson, will now
show up in the device drop down menu of CUPS
if not add parallel:/dev/lp0 as device URI in CUPS
as you see RastaSoft is so very attractive to us
here struggling with opening the command line
editor
we will learn, irie rasta mon ;)

Subject: Re: [dyne:bolic] CUPS revisited - parallel
port support?
I had a similar problem with my laser printer - I
had to modprobe some kernel modules, the main one
being parport_pc. I'll get my dyne system running
as soon as I can and let you know exactly what they
were.

~ i'm not sure if this is already a bug, but actually
~ the good old
~
http://bugs.dyne.org is where things go reported,
~ we use it actively
~ in development phase and people in charge of
~ squashing bugs refer to
~ that so the best way to report a bug and have it

~ later is to document it in detail[1] there.
~
~ speaking more in general i think this list should
~ become a place for

~ the release of
~ dyne:bolic 3. it's been a while now that this place
~ was silent, it
~ doesn't makes much sense to reactivate the
~ ancestral problem of
~ parallel port printers now for a start :)
~
~ in your case, you are struggling with an IBM
~ docking station and they
~ are known to me to not work, but i might be wrong
~ on that. i'd suggest
~ trying the printer on a desktop computer first,
~ making sure you have
~ the proper CUPS definition for its model.
~
~
~ [1] version of d:b you are using, kernel (uname
