Hi there !

I have left out some useful info, I'm very tired now, but let's see if I
can tell you the details...

So if the video card is the problem - as I had in the past with several
IBM machines - you should run 'xorgconfig'. Leave the mouse setup on
auto, select correct keyboard, select your monitor correct monitor
parameters - refresh rate, ddc compliance, etc. detailed infos could be
found on the net about your monitor or just select a generic setup -
after monitor setup you'll see a question do you want to look at the
card database or something similar. Than say yes, select VESA
compatible, select correct ram size and an available screen resolution.
(The video chip details on the manufacturers site gives a good help to
find the correct parameters) Then finally write xorg.conf - say yes to
question - and then you should start X window system with 'startx'. If
you have given the suitable parameters for your system, then you should
see the dynebolic splash screen...
After the succesful x start copy the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf to a safe
place - to hdd for example.Than create a nest - look in the manual for
the details - and restart to activate the nest.
After this copy xorg.conf back to its original place where you have
copied it, and next time you are booting with the nest, than everything
should work correctly. Sometimes - I don't know how - the correct
altered X configuration stays there despite a lack of a nest (or maybe
I am wrong at this...)
Later you can alter xorg.conf to try out other resolzutions and color
depths, which could work with your card.

I finally one more tip. When I first downloaded dynebolic and wrote it
on a cd, the image somehow was wrong and the same happened to me as to
you - no X. After several days - and machines - of trying, I
redownloaded the image and reburned a new cd and that solved the
problem for me at the first time... I wonder, what than I could use
nowdays for driving my machines instead of dyne

thanks Jaromil, if I haven't said yet :-)
