I think the OPs original post was that a full on white background was
TOO MUCH contrast(?) and highly stressing on their eyes. Since 'white
is all colours/colours, there is a lot of energy to be handled by the
cones(?)
In this eye condition and others, it might be better to have a pastel
or grey/gray background. This was something I had to use when my eyes
started deteriorating a decade ago. Thankfully I most work in
terminals and most of the gui prgrams allow colour/color
modification.
I actually found that my terminal combo is white serif font on dark
blue backgound. YMMV.I can not handle/work with dark mode.
