I've had my own mail server for maybe five years now, and the only issue I have run into is my emails getting blocked by Microsoft 365 or whatever it is. It was shortly after I initially set it up. And that was as simple to fix as filling a Microsoft form to let their systems know it was a legit email server.
Otherwise I have no issues sending or receiving email.
