Won't one issue be that new software or edited software only starts supporting wayland and so do you deal with that or are just providing the option to run X11 still for some packages?

Hopefully Debian won't go down the immutable distro route like RHEL seems to be pushing. They say they support both but that doesn't mean they will later. Perhaps they've been jealous of apts speed for years and immutable covers that up, haha.
