..if it "Can't open display", ^d to log out of that
ssh session and ssh back in with ssh -X or ssh -Y.

..yup, is what most people want when it all works ok.

..to get there, try a boot banning the radeon driver,
using e.g. vesa. vga or fbdev driver.

..good plan, would allow an hardware display on each video card without
having to debug Debians ideas on poetterized ssh "security" forcing the
use of ssh -Y.
