Apparently my question was confusing, so I'll try again.
* I have an Alcatel Go Flip cell phone, running KaiOS, but let's pretend
that it's Android...
https://ca.alcatelmobile.com/alcatel-go-flip/
* Via USB cable, I connect the phone to my Gentoo desktop PC, which has
"jmtpfs" installed.
* I then execute the following command from a script...
sudo /usr/bin/jmtpfs /home/waltdnes/tablet -o allow_other,auto_unmount
This is enabled in /etc/sudoers.d
* When I issue the jmtpfs command, jmtpfs responds...
Device 0 (VID=1bbb and PID=f003) is a Alcatel OneTouch 6034R.
Android device detected, assigning default bug flags
* I can now see the phone's microSD card, and download photos, and
upload mp3's/etc to play while I'm waiting in a doctor's office.
* To log off, I have to "cd" out of the microSD card, and issue...
sudo fusermount -u /home/waltdnes/tablet
...again enabled in /etc/sudoers.d
Is something similar available in Devuan?
