Only that he's fixed 5 computers a day for the last several years. To
me this gives him a lot of credibility, although it's possible he's
wrong.

Yes and no. I've cured many, many intermittent and hard faults by
lubricating electronic terminals, so short of doing a double blind
study, I'm pretty sure lubrication with a non-conductive fluid works.
