This list has been doing that for certain users ever since I took over
moderation a very long time ago. There is a technical reason for doing
it that way which I cannot remember and since DNG is hosted at Dyne,
they would be the ones to answer your question.

I just checked and maybe 10 "Peters" have an account on this list.

Nothing has changed. You have just noticed it perhaps because the number
of such occurrences has increased. However, maybe someone on this list
will know the answer because it is a common practice that I see on many
email lists.
