Just out of curiosity why did you choose the most complicated route by using proxmox?
I think that putting a spare HDD/SDD in your son's windows client pc and installing
Devuan there in dual boot mode would have been an easier way and probably
more satisfying. Even my mother who is 80 years old once her pc was correctly setup
and fine tuned with Debian could use it without problem.
